Who was Octavian's father?

I'm learning about Rome in cl but I'm confused, it said that Octavian was adopted by Julius Caesar but it just said that when he took over Egypt he changed his name to Augustus Caesar in honor of his father. So was his father's full name Augustus and just used Julius to shorten it or was his real father's last name just happened to be Caesar too? I'm really confused right now.
