How do i dry my own herbs, and store them?

i don't have a hugh amount of herbs as of yet, but will do soon in the future, how do i take those excess herbs and dry them, to then be ground and put in little bottles on my herb shelf? how long will thos dried herbs last? how can i make them last for a good length of time. the sorta time the shop brought dried herbs last?
