I have a wood burning stove in my kitchen with a fireplace build around it......i want to replace it but dont?

what to do with it....the previous owner put a hole in the wall & a small chimney at the side of the house...is there any other type of fire i can out in instead .....my house has gas....hope im getting my point across, its hard to describe it!!
